Food/Restaurant Review La Mouette, Sea Point, Cape Town

Updated: Mar 27, 2019

Place 📍: La Mouette, Sea Point

Food: fine dining

Last night we had dinner at La Mouette in Sea Point. It’s a fine dining restaurant with all the good reviews & recommendations you need if you chose a restaurant for a special night, our wedding anniversary night. Last anniversary I booked a place and this year it was my wife’s turn. Shared responsibilities 😉

Some form of home baked bread with a olive oil, herb, salt and Pepper mix.

Lucky for us we have a wonderful babysitter. She is does an amazing job so the kids where in good hands.

We arrived at the place and it’s the most boring interior layout/design I have ever seen. No decoration what’s so ever. Wooden chairs and tables. We got a nice place in the corner next to the not working fire place, (even if the fire place had the tiniest fire going it probably would of changed the hole setting). The waiter introduced himself and explained the menus. So there is a 5 course meal with or without wine, a 3 course meal with or without wine and a la carte menu.

We went big and ordered the 5 courses with wine.

Second Starter

Cheese Nuggets with sauce dip, two tartare crackers with tam tam...

Third starter

Beetroot salat with other veg stuff

Fourth starter

Mini squid

So we got 7 different dishes with the 5 course meal and 5 wines.

The food and wine pairing was on point.

I guess this place is just about the food AND the wine. For the price we paid I was also expecting quality. Never the less, the restaurant felt a bit tired. The magic was gone. Similar to Test Kitchen or the Round House. Difficult to describe?!

They do change there menu on a regular base so you can go there more often and enjoy different food and wine pairings.

Line fish and potato

First dessert

Something with strawberries

Second dessert

cookies filled with yummy cream

Third dessert

Another filled cookie

Total cost for the 5 course, both of us a pre drink and two middle class whiskey for desert ;-)

R2450 including Tip.

For me it’s definitely a serious option to all other fine dining restaurants and specially for people who don’t mind that’s not the most trendy restaurant in town and also not the most fancy one but the food and wine is definitely worth a visit.
